Culture, language, food and customs is a great part of my identity and my process of belonging. The Agrumi or lemone, is a significant item in Sicilian culture, it is a delicate beautifully vibrant fruit, that when eaten it’s bitter sourness cuts you and leaves a lasting impression on the palette. Fruit and vegetation is impermanent, yet permanent at the same time, that is, if the world will allow it to be. The fruit and tree dies, but through planting of the seeds it is reborn to bare fruit again, reflective of cultural permanence and heritage. Through using black and white colour palette, and charcoal on Aquarelle water colour paper, the rough texture of the fruit is carried through the beauty of the stillness of the silhouette.
